GSQ Challenge Quilt 2023

Print a copy of these guidelines HERE:

Challenge Due Date: June 15, 2023

This challenge was suggested by our members that have noticed that quilts made from the same pattern can sometimes look very different.   Each quilter chooses different fabrics, adds personalized borders, uses a different setting technique, etc. and the results are completely different.  This is typically very apparent during the show-and-tell after a class; everyone used the same pattern, but WOW, the quilts don’t look alike.

Let’s have some fun.  We’ll all use the same pattern and see what happens.  There aren’t a lot of rules – we just want you all to enjoy the process (and hopefully use up some of your stash).

  1. Everyone must use the pattern Silverstone from Robert Kaufman fabrics.  This is a free pattern that is beginner friendly and it can be downloaded from here:  https://www.robertkaufman.com/quilting/quilts_patterns/silverstone/  by clicking on ‘Download this pattern’ to the right of the photo of the quilt.

  2. The pattern is intended to provide some structure to our challenge.  However, feel free to add borders, change the block size, use/don’t use sashing, change the setting, or do whatever you want to make it ‘your quilt’.

  3. Each quilt must use a minimum of 12 blocks.  There is no maximum size.  However, if you intend  to donate your quilt to charity, please follow their guidelines for size and fabric selection.

  4. Only completed quilts (those quilted and bound) will be considered for prizes.

  5. Quilts will be presented for voting at the meeting on June 15, 2023.  Those members in attendance at this meeting will vote for their favorite quilt.  Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place (determined by the number of votes received).
